Art and creativity have always been part of my life. I have wanted it to be more than it has been, but, making a living and life's exigencies meant that it's what I do (pretty religiously) on holidays.

Born in the Netherlands I came to Canada at a young age. A professionally trained scientist, I continue to practice my craft as an environmental consultant, with a current focus on better managing our food resources so that they do not become waste (see foodisfood.ca; @allfoodisfood). That said I recently sold my company and am using my newly found time on my various creative outlets.

I am a self-taught watercolor painter and picked this media, some 25 years ago, because I thought it looked easy. Wrong. I used my inability, with this tricky media, to develop some of my own styles. For a long time they hid my perceived (and actual) deficiencies but now, that I have some comfort with this media, they are how I see things.

Combined with my love of traveling I have focused my artistic attentions to landscapes and buildings in a variety of locales including Florida, throughout Canada, Ireland, Barbados, Bermuda, Mexico, Spain, and the Netherlands.
